The Action "EU support for upgrading public health and animal health in the Turkish Cypriot community, including in view of the Halloumi/ Hellim PDO scheme implementation (the Action)" is financed by the European Union (EU) and implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ).
The Overall Objective of the Action is to contribute to confidence building in Cyprus through improved public and animal health and Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) compliant Hal-loumi/Hellim crossing the Green Line. It provides for specific actions aiming at building confidence between the two communities, which will have a concrete impact on the ground.
The Specific Objectives of the Action are:
1. To improve implementation of the EU Halloumi/Hellim PDO scheme and related EU food safety standards in the dairy sector;
2. To improve production capacity and implementation of EU food safety standards in the food production chain;
3. To strengthen the access to veterinary medicinal products (VMPs) registered by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) for use in beekeeping;
4. To improve the monitoring of feed quality;
5. To increase laboratory capacities for residue monitoring;
6. To improve animal husbandry conditions at sheep and goat farms.
The Action has the following outputs:
Component A: Direct support to dairy farmers and producers
Output 1: Between 12 and 20 farms supported to implement the PDO Halloumi/Hellim scheme and related EU food safety standards.
Output 2: Between 3 and 10 dairy factories supported to implement the Halloumi/Hellim PDO scheme and related EU food safety standards.
Output 3: Between 5 and 15 dairy farms supported to upgrade production towards meeting EU food safety standards.
Output 4: Between 5 and 20 food factories (dairy and other sectors) supported to up-grade production towards meeting EU food safety and hygiene standards.
Component B: Continued support to animal disease eradication
Output 5: VMPs registered by EMA for use in beekeeping supplied to TCc veterinary ‘department’.
Component C: Accompanying measures
Output 6: Feed quality monitoring equipment supplied and functional.
Output 7: Residue analytical testing equipment supplied and functional.
Output 8: Animal shelters supplied and functional.
