Conext
Global crises like climate change and pandemics pose major challenges for the international community. Emerging Asian donor countries increasingly play an active role alongside Western development cooperation. Germany is working closely with India and China on solutions to jointly implement the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
German and Asian partners work together in triangular cooperation initiatives through the regional Fund. These projects combine the strengths of German international cooperation with South-South cooperation. In this way, they achieve better results in partner countries.
The aim is for all three partners to contribute, learn from each other and benefit from the collaboration.
Objective
Triangular cooperation with China and India contributes to long-term global development.
Approach
The Fund covers three core areas:
1. Implementing triangular cooperation projects: The Fund implements pilot projects in Africa and Asia that address key sustainable development goals such as climate action, renewable energy, gender equality and digitalisation. Once evaluated, they are scaled up to achieve a greater impact.
2. Developing skills: In all participating countries, the Fund promotes the skills needed to jointly implement triangular cooperation projects by organising training courses through institutions such as the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the Indian think tank RIS (Research and Information Systems for Developing Countries) and consultancies.
3. Improving institutions and processes: The Fund supports Indo-German political dialogue on triangular cooperation. Together with India and China, transparent and inclusive standard procedures for selecting, implementing and evaluating triangular cooperation projects are being developed.
