In our global programmes we work at supraregional level on cross-border challenges that require collaborative solutions. Here, too, GIZ’s activities are based on global agendas and initiatives such as the 2030 Agenda and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We can achieve sustainable change only by working with local partners to implement specific measures on the ground.
Global programmes
An important bridge: we anchor global issues in local contexts, promote international knowledge-sharing and implement specific measures on the ground.
Get the challenges onto the international agenda
In addition to our in-country projects, we work in global programmes to ensure global problems attract international attention. We create joint platforms for knowledge-sharing, promote the international visibility of German initiatives and provide expert advice. We bring relevant stakeholders together, such as local organisations, academia, the private sector and multilateral partners. Besides achieving results in our partner countries, through our global commissions we support the German Government in meeting commitments under international agreements.
In global programmes we use innovative approaches and test new solutions while building global networks and implementing commissions swiftly and across sectors. Global programmes are thus an important bridge between local development and global political goals.
What are the advantages of global programmes?
- We scale up innovative approaches from individual countries and projects.
- We utilise global knowledge-sharing on best practices.
- We build lasting structures and thus secure development successes.
- We use data and lessons learned systematically and across borders – and work more efficiently as a result.
