Demand for African films and media content is soaring. In the course of this demand, new, dynamic fields of economic activity are emerging in Kenya and Rwanda.
Young talents take to the stage and shape the image of their country in a new light with their stories and films. At the same time, the two countries lack well-trained, experienced workers and effective support strategies.
In addition, the existing distribution systems and economic conditions are also not yet sufficiently developed to utilise the full potential of the film industry to drive employment for the emerging creative scene.
The film industry in Kenya and Rwanda is promoted. Filmmakers have acquired skills and relevant government support strategies are being implemented.
The project operates in three fields of activity:
1. Training: The project improves the practical, labour market-oriented skills of filmmakers through online training, webinars and podcasts, and supports young talents in producing their own pieces.
2. National strategies: The project advises the Kenya Film Commission and the Rwanda Film Office on how to implement national film promotion projects and strategies. For example, it provides assistance in establishing of national film funds.
3. Distribution: The project optimises market access, economic incentive systems and expanded networks in order to create better conditions for distributiing regional film products.
