Context

Political decision-makers in partner countries often have only limited access to data, and access is not sufficiently systematic. Policy decisions then lack a solid data foundation. As a result, measures may not achieve their objectives and resources may not be used efficiently.

Objective

Selected countries use data in policy-making.

Approach

The project supports government institutions in selected countries in using data applications and promoting data literacy. As innovations from partner countries can identify valuable approaches for digital transformation worldwide, the project promotes international dialogue.

The project provides advice on practical means of using data-driven solutions. It maps networks of data systems, provides data literacy training, and establishes digital applications for analysing data for policy-making. This is also achieved in part by using artificial intelligence (AI).

Together with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the project developed the Data to Policy Navigator. This facilitates networking and makes experiences more commonly accessible.

The network for political decision-makers, which was also established in cooperation with UNDP, promotes dialogue among the countries and with Germany.

The project also advises the Data Lab of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) on important processes for national and international data and AI policy.
