The journey to a greener transport future is on!
The Philippines' Department of Transportation, together with the Climate Change Commission and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), supported by GIZ, through the Transformative Actions for Climate and Ecological Protection and Development (TRANSCEND) Project, convened government agencies, development partners, and the academe to kick-start the process to come up with a more ambitious climate goal for transport.
With the theme, "Updating the Philippine Transport NDC, Pushing for the 'Sustainability' in the CASSA Advocacy", the workshop, attended by 115 experts and enthusiasts (91 in-person and 21 online), allowed discussions on green transport solutions to address the mobility needs and achieve the development goals.
The workshop was able to provide an avenue to revisit the previous commitment, track the status of these initiatives, and explore ways to scale it up through presentations of best cases and group discussion This is part of a series of activities lined up for the updating of the country’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) targeted to be submitted to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) within the year.
TRANSCEND is a bilateral project between the Federal Republic of Germany, through the International Climate Initiative (IKI), and the Republic of the Philippines. The IKI is implemented by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) in close cooperation with the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV) and the Federal Foreign Office (AA).
