GIZ organizes Philippine Coast Guard training course in preparation for new UAVs

The GIZ Project "Support to the Philippine Coast Guard in Securing the Rules-based International Order in the Indo-Pacific Phase 2 (PCGP2)" organized a series of activities and trainings in preparation for the delivery of three unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

The activities that ran from September 17 to 26 included a series of meetings with PCG officials, technical and operational training on the use of the new UAVs. Six selected PCG personnel from CG Aviation Command underwent the training courses which include mission planning, ground and manual control, technical backstopping and flight monitoring.

During the activities, the two German Aerodynamic Engineers who facilitated the trainings also tested weather and other conditions that may affect the operations of the new UAVs.

These new UAVs are customized to be suited to Philippine climate and coastal waters and to support a variety of PCG operations on maritime law enforcement, maritime safety, maritime security, and maritime environmental protection.  The UAVs will carry far advanced features that will go beyond the use of the two Trinity F90+ land mapping drones that were handed over to the PCG in the Project Phase 1 (2021-2022).
