E2RB Project closes after 5 years of helping mainstream ecosystem-based adaptation in government policy processes and planning
On August 16, the GIZ Project “Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) in 2 River Basins in the Philippines (E2RB)” held its National Closing Ceremony marking the culmination of a 5-year initiative jointly implemented by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and GIZ. Funded by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV) through the International Climate Initiative (IKI), the Project aimed to conserve biodiversity, enhance ecosystem services, and reduce vulnerability to climate change and natural disasters in its two implementation sites.
The Project celebrated the protection of forests and engagement of communities through 10 local contribution projects in the Ilog-Hilabangan and Tagum-Libuganon River Basins. This momentous occasion acknowledged and recognised E2RB partnerships which created an enabling environment for mainstreaming EbA in government policy processes and planning at both national and regional levels.
The event was graced by DENR Secretary Ms. Maria Antonia Yulo Loyzaga, his Excellency, Dr. Michael Andreas Pfaffernoschke, the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Philippines, and GIZ Country Director Mr. Immanuel Gebhardt.
Dr. Klaus Schmitt, GIZ-E2RB Principal Adviser, and Dr. Sevillo David, Jr., Executive Director of the River Basin Control Office (RBCO), each gave closing remarks, which were followed by a round of toasts to honor the Project's success.
Held at the Makati Diamond Residences, the Closing was attended by partners from local government units, stakeholders, and various partners who contributed to the Project implementation.
