Promoting employment through cooperation with companies

Context

Morocco is an economic powerhouse on the African continent. Political stability, infrastructure investments and the country's economic strategy have contributed to growth and a broad-based economy. Sectors such as the automotive industry and IT attract investments and are able to explore new business areas.

At the same time, there are numerous underemployed people and informal employment relationships. In addition, a large number of young people enter the labour market each year. On the one hand, there are not enough jobs for jobseekers. On the other, companies often have problems finding suitable staff, as many people on the labour market do not have sufficient practical training.

Objective

Partnerships with Moroccan and international companies lead to more jobs and greater corporate growth.

Approach

The project promotes growth and employment in Moroccan and international companies and is active in the following areas:

• It improves the conditions for investment in Morocco. The main focus here is on the framework conditions that hinder or block specific investment projects by one or more companies.
• It promotes Moroccan SMEs in selected sectors, working with industrial zones to this end.
• It offers training for companies to make it easier for them to find qualified employees.
• It supports networking and dialogue between public and private sector partners.
• The project facilitates the search for potential co-operation partnerships between European and Moroccan companies in order to improve access to international export markets.

The project is part of the Special Initiative ‘Decent Work for a Just Transition’ launched by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
