New commission signed to support the EU Green Economy Programme for the Philippines
This action aims to support the Philippines in an inclusive and green recovery by unlocking the potential and transformation towards a circular economy, in particular aiming at the enhancement of plastic waste management, increased energy efficiency and renewable energy deployment, and promoting and implementing climate change mitigation measures. Several agencies are involved to implement this action with its specific objectives: (1) Policy support and related demonstration projects to be implemented by GIZ, whereas GIZ will also be tasked to act as overall ‘project coordinator;' (2) Support of LGU initiatives and capacity building to be implemented by UNDP; and (3) Integration of the private sector and related investments through Expertise France and IFC.
This project will be anchored in the regional project Integrated Urban Climate Action for Low-Carbon and Resilient Cities (Urban-Act),” that is commissioned by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) under the International Climate Initiative (IKI). The EU project will run from January 2024 until end of 2027 and will provide a total financing volume of 60M EUR being a flagship project to be implemented jointly with the Philippines' Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
