The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH has been working with Malaysia since it became independent in 1963.

The Malaysia portfolio is managed from GIZ’s Bangkok office in Thailand. Malaysia is not a bilateral partner country of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.

Malaysia, an emerging economy, has evolved from a recipient to a donor of development assistance. Economic growth has led to high greenhouse gas emissions, so Malaysia faces the challenge of adapting to the impacts of climate change.

GIZ is executing several regional programs that include project components in Malaysia, focusing on promoting sustainable consumption and production (SCP), eco-labelling, sustainable use of peatland, and reducing deforestation.
