GIZ Indonesia & ASEAN Annual Report 2024: Partnership for a Green and Resilient Future in Indonesia and ASEAN
In 2024, our work with the Indonesian Government and ASEAN covered the cooperation areas of ASEAN, Energy Transition, Resilient Nature, and Urban Development, as well as the topics of Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and Green Jobs, and Digital Transformation.
Indonesia, has a special role to play in implementing common interests, values and international goals – in particular the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Paris Climate Agreement and also the Global Framework for Biodiversity – as well as in the protection of global public goods in general.
It is one of the countries with the highest greenhouse gas emissions, has large areas of diverse tropical rainforests (including peatlands and mangrove zones), and enormous greenhouse gas savings potential in the energy and land use sectors. At the same time Indonesia, as an island state, is severely affected by climate change.
Due to its rapid economic development, the G20 and ASEAN member is now an emerging country with increasing regional and global importance, and the World Bank has classified it as an upper-middle-income country.
“As GIZ embraces 50 years in Indonesia in 2025, we take this opportunity to look back on our vital work and achievements in 2024. Our activities and programmes together with partners from the Indonesian Government and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) aim to support them in achieving their Sustainable Development Goals and Priorities, for a better life and shaping a future worth living in for the people of this nation, this region, and throughout the world.”
