Context

In 2009, Namibia was categorised as a country with upper-middle income. Yet, multidimensional inequality in the country remains very high with 43 per cent of Namibians living below the poverty line. Data for the necessary evaluations is often missing or not of sufficient quality. Gaps in available financing for development persist and at the same time, there is incoherent policy implementation.

To achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda, evidence-based policy implementation and integrated financing are essential.

Objective

Namibia has improved its institutional conditions for implementing the 2030 Agenda and has made progress in establishing more coherency in policy implementation. Planning has become more evidence-based, and the country has found viable options for the necessary funding.

Approach

The project supports the Namibian government in the following areas:

- Facilitating ministries and government agencies to implement policies in a coordinated manner;

- Ensuring public and private resources are used responsibly to fund the national implementation of the Agenda 2030;

- Promoting evidence-based procedures and ensuring the use of high quality data in decision making and evaluation processes.
