Context
Colombia plays a crucial role in the global protection of biodiversity and holds significant potential for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The country has set ambitious Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), aiming to cut emissions by 51 per cent by 2030. Recently, Colombia developed a roadmap for a just energy transition (JET) and updated its National Biodiversity Action Plan to align with the new Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF). Despite ongoing efforts to enhance national climate commitments, the country continues to face challenges with securing funding, achieving political coherence, and building effective systems to monitor progress.
Objective
Relevant actors in Colombia have implemented national climate, biodiversity, and JET goals using a gender-responsive approach.
Approach
The project implements the following measures to support Colombia’s climate, energy, and biodiversity goals:
• Facilitating political dialogue to advance policies on climate action, biodiversity conservation, and a JET with a gender-responsive approach,
• Supporting selected companies in the industrial and energy fields to develop and implement integrated management plans for climate change and biodiversity,
• Promoting the mobilisation of public and private funding, and improving systems for monitoring, reporting, and evaluation across the three thematic areas: climate, biodiversity and JET,
• Fostering cooperation between Colombia and Germany via the Climate and Just Energy Transition Partnership and among IKI projects through the project’s interface function.
