Context

Micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) account for 95 per cent of the Moroccan economy. MSMEs are thus the driving force for the creation of employment and economic growth. However, most Moroccan MSMEs are not yet benefiting from the advantages of digitalisation. They continue to regard the digital transformation as a cost factor rather than as an investment in the future and an opportunity for business development. This situation is intensified by the fact that public and private services to support digital transformation are not sufficiently geared to their needs.

Objective

Micro, small and medium-sized enterprises in Morocco are using digitalisation to drive their business activities forward. They can rely on better state and private support and funding in this process.

Approach

The project is working with the Moroccan government and companies from the digital economy to support the digitalisation of MSMEs through a better, coordinated service offer. To do so, the project implements the following measures:

  • The project supports the role of public authorities in the digital inclusion of MSMEs by improving its data pool, cooperation and support programmes. This enables the public sector to offer harmonized and coordinated support for MSMEs.
  • The programme also encourages service providers, such as IT companies or business associations, to develop new services and software products. These are to be geared towards local needs and in accordance with the digital maturity of MSMEs.
  • The project also raises awareness and supports MSMEs in optimising their business processes and models through the digital transformation. MSMEs are supported to train their employees, to make investments in digitalisation and thus ensure the future viability of their companies.
