The challenges of displacement continue to grow: more than 120 million people worldwide are forced to flee their homes. Building on the groundwork of the Global Programme with UNHCR (SUN), the Refugee Inclusion Accelerator (RISE) takes the next step towards a more sustainable response.

Objective

Our vision remains clear: refugees should be fully integrated into host communities and become valued members of society – not isolated in camps and dependent on humanitarian aid. Our mission is to partner with like-minded refugee-hosting countries and support them in shaping inclusive futures for both refugees and host communities.

Approach

RISE is designed as a partnership approach with three core elements:

Managing transitions: We help countries navigate the difficult shift from short-term humanitarian responses to inclusive, long-term approaches to hosting refugees.

Co-creating solutions: Together with governments, UNHCR, civil society and the private sector, we develop and scale innovative solutions for refugee inclusion.

Global advocacy: We join forces to advocate internationally for sustainable refugee inclusion as a shared responsibility.

With support from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), RISE continues and expands the successful cooperation between GIZ and UNHCR – from national partnerships with host countries to global dialogue and innovation.
