Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSME) development in the informal sector

The Career Path Development for Employment (CPD4E) programme is implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) co-financed by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO).

CPD4E is looking for a consultancy to develop a support and mentoring programme to enhance the capabilities of Micro-, Small-, and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) within the informal sectors of South Africa's townships. The project aligns with national goals to integrate these MSMEs into the formal economy, boosting their role in a Just Transition and unlock their employment potential.

The aim is to facilitate formalization, growth, and transition towards greener business practices of these MSMEs. Activities include collaboration with industry associations, delivering a training programme covering essential business skills and green technologies, initiating a detailed mentorship program, and ensuring ongoing support and monitoring.

The contractor is expected to carry out a comprehensive programme targeting the development of 50 MSMEs in sectors of the green economy. This program is structured into four work packages designed to provide flexible yet cohesive delivery of services.

The programme is scheduled from September 1, 2024, to August 31, 2025, depending on the start of the contract.
