Context
Algeria’s economy, which is dominated by the oil and gas sector, often struggles to compete and is highly dependent on fossil resources. The Algerian government has therefore already initiated economic policy reforms to facilitate broad-based growth and make local micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) more competitive. However, public and private support programmes for green, inclusive growth of MSMEs are still insufficient and need to be expanded.
Objective
New support programmes for Algerian MSMEs contribute to a broad-based, more competitive economy.
Approach
The project supports public and private solutions for MSMEs in the following ways:
- It advises MSMEs so that they can utilise company resources more efficiently and thus contribute to green growth in the country.
- It also establishes solutions that develop the capacities of MSMEs to allow them to gain access to new national and international markets.
- Business associations, funding organisations and public-private networks are supported in offering services that promote green innovation by MSMEs and the use of information and communication technologies.
- The project also advises public and private actors so that they can better analyse the difficulties faced by MSMEs and reduce insolvencies.
- With new funding for MSMEs in the agricultural and food sector, the project is also helping to improve the competitiveness of these businesses.
