Context
The inadequate infrastructure and socio-economic prospects in northern Côte d'Ivoire weaken social cohesion and, in particular, the resilience of young people. A small number of them therefore leave the country or join criminal groups in order to have supposedly better prospects for the future. However, this jeopardises the stability of the border regions.
Objective
The socio-economic resilience of young people in selected northern regions of Côte d'Ivoire is increased.
Approach
The project operates on a cross-regional basis in the following areas:
- It improves the conditions for economic growth and employment. To this end, it is providing initial and continuing training to develop young people's skills so that they can find work and set up companies.
- It is working with public institutions to get more people into employment. In this context, it improves the capacities of regional administrations in order to create favourable conditions.
- It also supports peaceful coexistence, social cohesion and peaceful conflict resolution. To this end, it cooperates with local stakeholders and civil society.
The programme designs measures in such a way that the participants work together across regions, for example in the marketing of agricultural products and in violence prevention and conflict resolution. Activities such as training measures are also intended to have a positive impact on neighbouring regions.
