Context

Indonesia has taken more responsibility for global goals, such as the G20 Presidency 2022, and recognises the importance of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 17 Partnership for the Goals.

To achieve this, partnerships involving multistakeholder partnerships are necessary. Indonesia has aligned its national planning, budgeting and monitoring with the SDGs and uses the 2030 Agenda as guidance for South-South and Triangular Cooperation (SSTC) initiatives.

To enhance its SSTC efforts, Indonesia established the Indonesian Agency for International Development (IndonesianAID) in 2019. However, challenges remain in implementing the SDGs and SSTC efforts in Indonesia. There is still a need for further policy development, practical experience and more engagement by state and non-state actors. The project aims to address these challenges and enhance the synergy between the SDG implementation and SSTC efforts in Indonesia.

Objective

State and non-state actors are improving their capabilities in terms of implementing the SDGs in Indonesia and in the Global South.

A panel sits at the East Nusa Tenggara SDGs Forum on 30 August 2022.

Approach

The project supports BAPPENAS (the Ministry of National Development Planning, Republic of Indonesia) in implementing the SDGs as well as the National Coordination Team of South-South Cooperation (NCT SSC) in advancing SSTC measures and promoting collaboration in the spirit of inclusive partnership. Its specific activities include:

  • Establishing a new procedure for monitoring and reporting on the implementation of the SDG guidelines at all levels of government and public administration.
  • Ensuring that the NCT SSC coordinates the implementation of 4 new gender sensitive triangular cooperation measures with German participation.
  • Overseeing the joint presentation by Indonesia and Germany of the results of their cooperation on the 2030 Agenda at two international events between 2020 and 2023.
