Philippines better prepared to address climate change with German support: Climate Change Commission
The Philippines’ technical cooperation with the German environment ministry through GIZ has accelerated the Philippines’ climate change adaptation and mitigation efforts, said Secretary Emmanuel De Guzman, Vice Chair and Executive Director of the Climate Change Commission (CCC) under the Office of the President, at the culminating event of the two countries’ Support to CCC project on February 13 in Quezon City.
At the event, which coincided with CCC’s 10th anniversary, Sec. De Guzman said the commission now has efficient systems for monitoring and evaluating the implementation of the country’s National Climate Change Action Plan across government agencies and the country’s delivery of its international climate commitments.
On the ground, more than 150 local government units in Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao have integrated climate adaptation and mitigation measures into their local land use and development plans. Local governments and communities will also now find it easier to access the People’s Survival Fund for their climate change adaptation projects.
Sec. De Guzman added that German support has laid the foundation for the country’s transition to a low-carbon and sustainable energy industry.
