MHM Initiative - A Workplace Inclusion Strategy

Menstrual health and hygiene are essential yet often overlooked aspect of workplaces. Many women face challenges due to inadequate access to menstrual hygiene products and the stigma surrounding menstruation. Studies show that around 15% of women miss work during their menstrual cycle due to unmet menstrual health needs at their workplaces. Recognising this, GIZ Pakistan launched a Menstrual Health Management (MHM) Initiative in all its duty stations, aiming to ensure the comfort of female employees.
The MHM Initiative at GIZ Pakistan
As part of our commitment to foster workplace inclusivity and employee well-being, we have introduced a menstrual health management initiative. Under this initiative, the company provides free menstrual hygiene products in female washrooms, enabling women to manage their menstrual health with dignity and ease.
This initiative aims to foster a supportive workplace where menstrual health is recognised as a fundamental aspect of employees’ well-being. By ensuring easy access to menstrual products, we are taking a step towards breaking societal taboos.
Enhanced Comfort and Well-being at Work
MHM initiative is a simple yet impactful measure as it allows women to continue their work without unnecessary discomfort or disruption. This conscious effort ensures that no woman faces inconvenience due to lack of access to menstrual hygiene products at the workplace.
Female employees at GIZ Pakistan have responded positively to this initiative, appreciating the company’s effort in addressing a basic yet critical need.
“Availability of menstrual products helps me and my female colleagues to focus on our tasks without added stress. We feel valued and respected, knowing that our organisation acknowledges our menstrual health.” Aamna Furqan, Communication Intern at GIZ Pakistan
We are committed to sustain this initiative by ensuring the continuous availability of these products and raising awareness about menstrual health and hygiene. MHM Initiative at GIZ Pakistan is a significant step toward gender-sensitive workplace policies. By prioritising menstrual health, we are fostering a healthier, more inclusive work environment, where women feel supported, empowered, and respected.
