Lao German Development Project delivers IT tools to strengthen Vocational Training
In a significant boost to technical and vocational education, 48 desktop computers and 18 laptops were officially handed over to nine Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions across Laos on February 25, 2025.
With this initiative, the Lao German development cooperation project "Vocational Education in Lao PDR (VELA)" Phase III, implemented by GIZ, aims to strengthen Dual- Cooperative Training (DCT). Equipping TVET teachers and students with essential digital skills will improve their performance and the labour market integration. The Lao German Technical College, Pakpasak Technical College, and Bolikhamxay Technical Vocational School, among others, joined the ceremony, which was overseen by Mr. Tingkham Soulintha, Deputy Director of the TVET Department, Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES).
Recognizing the challenges faced by TVET institutions in accessing modern IT equipment, this handover aims to bridge the digital divide and ensures students having necessary skills for success. With these computers the DCT coordination unit, as well as the school´s computer labs are ready to digitalise teaching and learning. This setup will enable students to access resources and to industry-standard technology. The handover process will continue for the remaining six TVET institutions in Luang Namtha, Houaphanh, Xieng Khuang, Khammouane, Salavanh, and Attapeu.
