Stronger Protection for Women and Children in Laos
Government officials, gender experts, lawyers, and community leaders gathered in Luang Prabang on 20-21 November for a two-day seminar. This seminar aimed to strengthen efforts to protect women and children’s rights in Laos, tackle the urgent issues of human trafficking. Key discussions highlighted the need for better oversight, data collection, and anti-trafficking measures.
Khamla Khamphavong, a lawyer representative, said, “Violence against women and children is not just physical; it can also be verbal or any action that violates their rights. We must take all forms of violence seriously to protect them.”
The seminar was organized by the Luang Prabang Provincial People’s Assembly, with support from the CEGGA Programme in partnership with Helvetas Laos, and funded by Switzerland, Germany, and the EU.
