Short film on rural youth employment in Malawi

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH commissioned by BMZ implements the Global Project on Employment in Rural Areas with a Focus on Youth in Kenya, Burkina Faso, Mozambique and Malawi. The project’s objective is to promote rural youth employment. To achieve this objective, the project supports the following four areas with an integrated approach to employment promotion, the so called 360° AgriJobs approach (https://agrijobs.snrd-africa.net/). To increase awareness of the topic, the project launches a call for proposal to produce the below:

Participatory semi-documentary short film on rural youth employment in Malawi.

The goal is to create a 20-minute short film that tells the story of rural youth in Malawi from the perspective of various youth groups. The film will highlight their realities, advocate for their needs, and raise awareness on issues like education, employment, land, and the future of the agri-food sector. The protagonists will include young farmers and agripreneurs, both male and female, with diverse backgrounds and rural settings.

To ensure the film’s success, a training component will be added for the main characters, local youth groups, and a local media company. This training will cover narrative storytelling, new film technologies, and using film to create impact and awareness.

The contractor is responsible for preparation (incl. identification of characters, script writing, etc.), implementation (incl. shooting the film and feedback sessions, etc.) and postproduction (incl. editing, identifying suitable short film festivals on the African continent as well as international festivals, upload to film to various platforms, etc.). Furthermore, the contractor is responsible for selecting, preparing, training and steering the international and national, short and long-term experts as well as the media partner in Malawi. The contractor provides equipment and supplies (consumables) and assumes the associated operating and administrative costs.  The contractor will manage costs and expenditures, accounting processes and invoicing in line with the requirements of GIZ.

GIZ invites eligible consulting firms to participate in this tender. More information about the GIZ project can be found here: www.agrijobs.snrd-africa.net
