High-Level National Dialogue on Green Transport Development: Challenges and Solutions to Attract Investment Resources
In Hanoi, on August 21, 2024, the Ministry of Transport in collaboration with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) within the framework of the NDC Transport Initiative in Asia Countries (NDC-TIA) project organised the National Dialogue "Green Transport Development: Challenges and Solutions to Attract Investment Resources". The National Dialogue was chaired by Minister of Transport Nguyen Van Thang with the participation of more than 200 delegates from Ministries/Departments/Sectors, provinces/cities, embassies to Hanoi, international organisations, businesses and scientists. The provincial transport departments of 63 provinces and cities nationwide participated online.
In his opening speech, Minister Nguyen Van Thang acknowledged and appreciated international partners, including the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany, for their support and companionship with the Ministry and local authorities, and highly appreciated GIZ for actively and proactively coordinating with the Transport Development and Strategy Institute to organise the National Policy Dialogue to exchange and discuss results achieved, propose practical solutions to attract investment resources in effort of developing green transport infrastructure and switch vehicles used green energy by 2050.
In his welcome speech, Mr. Fabian Hartjes, 2nd Secretary of Economic Affairs and Climate Diplomacy at the German Embassy in Hanoi believed that today's National Policy Dialogue is such a platform to gather international resources, sharing the common goal with Viet Nam to achieve net emissions of "0". “At the same time, we commit to long-term cooperation and support in reducing carbon emissions in the transport sector.”
At the National Dialogue, GIZ had the opportunity to present the results of transport scenario towards net zero emissions in Viet Nam by 2050 and the national electric mobility roadmap, as a basis for proposing solutions to overcome challenges and attract investment resources for green transport development.
Concluding the National Dialogue, on behalf of the Ministry of Transport, Deputy Minister Le Anh Tuan hopes to continue the cooperation between the MOT and international organisations so that Viet Nam can take advantage of this support to strongly develop green transport infrastructure and implement the transition to green transport.
