Conference on Capacity Strengthening for Women in the Ministry of Industry and Commerce on the Celebration of the 114th Anniversary of International Women's Day on 8th March 2024
The Ministry of Industry and Commerce has organized the “Conference on Capacity Strengthening for Women in the Ministry of Industry and Commerce on the Celebration of the 114th Anniversary of International Women's Day (on 8th March 2024)” on 12 March 2024, at the Landmark Riverside Hotel, Vientiane Capital, with honorary co-chairs by Mrs. Chansouk SENGPHACHANH, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Ambassador Annette Knobloch, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Lao PDR and Mrs. Sommaiy PHOMMOUNIVONG, President of the Lao Women's Union of the MoIC, along with distinguished guest Mrs. Alounny Kommasith, a Spouse of H.E. Mr. Saleumxay KOMMASITH, Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao PDR, spouses of the Minister and Vice Ministers of Industry and Commerce, Directors General, Deputy Directors General of relevant departments within the MoIC, the representatives of the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, State Enterprises, Companies, GIZ-COMPETE II Project. The total number of participants was approximately 200 people.
The objective of this conference is to highlight the importance of the celebration of International Women's Day domestically and internationally and to report on the progress of drafting the Gender Mainstreaming Action Plan of the MoIC of 2024-2025. In addition, there were also panel discussions on "the Importance of Gender Mainstreaming in the industry and commerce sectors" and "Capacity Building in Electronic Commerce" for women in the ministry.
This conference was supported by the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany through the implementation of GIZ-COMPETE II, which also focuses on the significance of gender mainstreaming in the industry and commerce sectors, and the project aims to significantly contribute to the implementation of the promotion progress of women in the industry and commerce sectors in the future.
