Pacific GIS and Remote Sensing Council Conference highlights mapping and monitoring of seagrass and mangrove ecosystems through cloud computing
This was shared by GIZ Philippines and the Pacific Island Countries GIS Officer Shyam Lodhia during his presentation at the 2023 Pacific GIS and Remote Sensing Council Conference. Mr. Lodhia added that by utilising these capabilities, the process is simplified for non-programmers and GIS technicians in streamlining, mapping, monitoring and documentation of seagrass and mangrove changes nationally.
In collaboration with the Pacific-Community-SPC DigitalEarthPacific project, the GIZ and SPREP Project "Management and Conservation of Blue Carbon Ecosystems (MACBLUE) is currently working on the mapping of seagrass and mangrove ecosystems via remote sensing approaches to create accurate seagrass and mangrove ecosystems maps in the four partner countries: Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, and Vanuatu.
