Context

Uzbekistan is one of the world's largest producers of natural textile fibres, cotton yarn and knitwear. And the labour market has an increasing demand for professionals, not only with academic knowledge but also with practical experience.

The textile sector therefore needs to invest in vocational education and labour market-oriented training. This requires the development of coherent standards in vocational training and measures for vocational orientation and career planning in cooperation with the business community.

Objective

Vocational education and training in Uzbekistan are aligning with the needs of the labour market and are more compatible with international standards.

Approach

The project supports a comprehensive reform for vocational education and training (VET) in Uzbekistan. The strategy aims to:

  • Establish effective cooperation between all relevant technical VET actors from the state, business and education. This will improve the understanding of the needs of the vocational education and training system.
  • Improve cooperation between policymakers, the education sector and employers in formulating a new normative framework for vocational education and training.
  • Fostering cooperation between schools and enterprises in implementing joint vocational education and training and initial dual approaches.
