Context
Uzbekistan is implementing comprehensive economic reforms, including the green transformation of its economy. An efficient and competitive industry is crucial for reducing CO2 emissions and boosting value creation and employment.
Nevertheless, the country’s economic development lags behind its own expectations of climate-sensitive industrialisation. The outdated and inefficient technologies used in the manufacturing sector result in low energy efficiency and low competitiveness of Uzbekistan’s industry. Growth can only be sustainable if the green transformation of the economy and industrial sector is systematically promoted.
Objective
Energy- and resource-efficient production in Uzbekistan is driving the country’s green industrialisation and creating the conditions for long-term environmentally aware economic growth.
Approach
The project cooperates with policymakers, private companies, business associations and research institutions. Its activities include:
- Providing economic policy advice and consolidating the human and operational capabilities of relevant public sector actors. This includes trainings and workshops and facilitating an exchange of experience with other countries.
- Providing expertise on CO2 measurement and certification. Supporting the private sector in adapting green technologies for resource-efficient production, for example in circular economy models and green industrial parks.
- Identifying and supporting the development of two green future oriented industries for their further development. Offering networking, training and technology to participating companies and research-educational institutions to increase their international competitiveness.
- Increasing cooperation between European and Uzbek companies in the field of green industrialisation.
