GIZ's contributions highlighted at Asia Clean Energy Forum
With the theme "Navigating Toward a Carbon-Neutral Future through Clean Energy Solutions," the workshop had several sessions organized by GIZ staff and experts, which culminated in the Deep Dive Workshop (DDW) on "Digital Innovations in the Energy Sector Supporting Clean Energy Transitions: Real Stories on the Ground," showcasing GIZ’s initiatives on digitalizing key aspects of the energy sector such as energy access, grid integration of renewable energy (RE), and energy efficiency. The GIZ delegation presented the different digital platforms being supported by GIZ in the promotion of RE and energy efficiency in the region. GIZ India also shared their project experiences on the importance of women in the just energy transition, led by Ms. Nidhi Sarin and Mr. Sashi Kumar.
With cooling as a hot topic of the ACEF, Ms. Maraida Licerio (GIZ Philippines, in photo) contributed as a panelist of the DDW Regional Leadership on Sustainable Cooling and the COP 28 Global Cooling Pledge discussing the challenges in financing for cooling and supporting countries with technologies and innovation. She also co-organized with CLASP, an NGO working on improving the energy and environmental performance of appliances, a Spotlight Session on “Enhancing Energy Efficiency Standards and Labelling for Appliances in Asia-Pacific," presenting the use of appliance product registries in measurement, reporting and verification (MRV) for climate reporting.
The GIZ delegation was composed of Dr. Narayan Chaulagain, Ms. Trang Nguyen Hong Ngoc (GIZ Vietnam), Mr. Sascha Oppowa (GIZ Thailand) and Mr. Nitin Jain (GIZ India) and partners from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Nepal.
