May is the Month of the Ocean: See how GIZ celebrates it through the ProCoast Project
In celebration of the Month of the Ocean, let's watch a series of videos produced by the GIZ Project "Sustainable Coastal Protection through Biodiversity Conservation in Coastal Ecosystems Affected by Typhoons in the Philippines (ProCoast) (2018 – 2022). ProCoast is part of the International Climate Initiative (IKI) -- one of the key instruments of the German Federal Government to support international climate action and biodiversity. ProCoast was implemented in partnership with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Biodiversity Management Bureau. Check out these ProCoast videos:
* Are you interested in the establishment of an ecopark to protect mangrove areas? Visit the Katunggan It Ibajay Mangrove Ecopark. It has 27 of the 25 species of mangroves in the Philippines, how amazing is that? Go to: https://youtu.be/16zD3XhumTc
* Setting up biodiversity-friendly enterprises ensures sustainability of the natural resources and the communities around it. Watch this video on Taklong Island National Marine Reserve. Go to: https://youtu.be/oXTO3fhhjg4
* Green-gray engineering to minimize coastal erosion and improve quality of substrate has been demonstrated in the community-managed Pedada Integrated Mangrove Ecopark. Go to: https://youtu.be/uRkkWAn-I8k
* The Leganes Integrated Katunggan Ecopark demonstrated the successful conversion of abandoned fishpond into a mangrove ecopark through effective governance and partnership with the private sector. Go to: https://youtu.be/rZ9CYsNP6Vs
* iMPA shows the integration of several marine and coastal habitats into a protected area. This good practice is featured in Concepcion iMPA. Go to: https://youtu.be/MVE3511ntmg
* Coastal rehabilitation and conservation can only be sustained when the whole community supports and works towards it. Social marketing towards conservation of natural resources is the secret of the success of Sagay Marine Reserve. Go to: https://youtu.be/II9pSbUEf_4
