Gender Equality in the Workplace
On 10th March 2023, in the frame of the International Women’s Week, 20 German alumni, who had completed their education or training in Germany and returned to contribute to the sustainable development of Viet Nam, and representatives of German organisations, came together at the workshop “Gender Equality in the Workplace” at the Goethe Institute in Hanoi. The workshop was organised by the GIZ Global Programme Migration & Diaspora, funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The event was aimed to be a platform for partcipants to share their personal perspectives on gender equality and diversity as well as how to be part of a positive change for an equal, inclusive and sustainable society.
Mr. Santiago Alonso Rodriguez, Development Counsellor of BMZ, opened the workshop by highlighting gender equality as a human right and a guiding principle of German developement work. Participants also listened to the input of Mr. Le Quang Binh, Director of ECUE, on a research on gender equality at top 30 enterprises in Viet Nam and good practices to implement solutions for gender equality at GIZ Viet Nam. Then a podium discussion took place place with two Returning Experts namely Mr. Tran Duc Trung, Deputy Director of the Center of Medicinal Material Resources and Ms. Ngo Thi To Nhien, Director of the social enterprise Viet SE along with Mr. Alonso Rodriguez and Ms. Rezaie, representative of the GIZ TVET Reform Programme II in Viet Nam. All panelists shared their experiences in their fields of work in promoting gender equality and gender diversity. The participants also contributed with their own experiences and solutions to gender inequality in Viet Nam and in other countries. In the afternoon, a workshop was conducted for all participants and they revisited gender (in)equality, using different gender theories to understand gender norms and gender segregation in the workplace from different lenses.
