Context
The ongoing war in Yemen is exacerbating the situation faced by women, young people and civil-society stakeholders in the country. These groups have only restricted opportunities to participate in society, and are also affected by various forms of violence. Nonetheless, they remain a force for peace, and have been contributing to peaceful coexistence, even during the civil war. To achieve this, however, they require safe spaces to share their experiences. They also need support to develop skills so that they can implement and communicate inclusive conflict-reduction measures.

Objective
The conditions for non-violent conflict resolution in Yemen are improved.
Approach
The project helps to build local capacities for peace. For example, it strengthens the institutional and professional competencies of civil-society organisations and supports academic institutions in establishing positions on human rights and state-building.
Awareness-raising campaigns are taking place both online and offline, with the aim of reaching Yemen’s younger generation in particular. To this end, the project develops gaming apps with an educational purpose.
To facilitate the role specifically of women in achieving peace, the project produces discussion papers dealing with women’s participation in the Yemeni peace process. In addition, exchange platforms help women’s organisations to network.
The European Union (EU) provides extra funding for some of these activities. This makes it possible to finance measures to support peaceful coexistence, civil-society stakeholders and local administrations, in particular, as well as an exchange platform for women, and mapping and analysis activities.
