Promoting TVET for Green Economic Development
Project description
Title: TVET for Green Economic Development and Employment
Commissioned by: German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ)
Country: Brazil
Lead executing agency: Ministry of Education (MEC)
Overall term: 2021 to 2024
Context
Brazil is the largest economy in Latin America. The country has significant potential to strengthen green economic sectors and thus protect the climate. Political and economic actors are therefore increasingly calling for a green transformation. This includes renewable energy and investments in the bioeconomy and circular economy.
However, parts of Brazil’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) system are not yet sufficiently prepared for training the necessary experts in these areas. At the same time, access to training and employment is difficult for some of the population.
National initiatives run by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of the Economy aim to expand and improve the quality of TVET, for example by bringing it more in line with economic requirements.
Objective
The employment prospects of TVET graduates have improved. This contributes to green economic development in renewable energy, the circular economy, the bioeconomy and the digitalisation of the economy.
Approach
The project advises the Ministry of Education (MEC), Ministry of Labour (MTP), National Service for Industrial Training (SENAI) and Federal Network of Vocational, Scientific and Technological Education (IF) on developing needs-based education and training in green economic sectors.
The strategy focuses on the ministries along with companies and vocational schools in the regions. Modern training courses are implemented in cooperation with business associations. The project also contributes to laying the necessary technical and methodological foundations.
In addition, the project promotes dialogue formats and specialist technical analysis in order to incorporate international experience. In areas related to the circular economy and the bioeconomy, the project cooperates with the company GOPA Worldwide Consultants.
