Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ)
The Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) is the shareholder of GIZ together with the Federal Ministry of Finance (BMF). GIZ’s Supervisory Board is chaired by Martin Jäger.
BMZ is also GIZ’s main commissioning party. We have been cooperating for more than 40 years in a spirit of trust.
The Ministry commissions us to implement advisory projects that enhance the capacities of individuals, organisations and societies to improve their living conditions through the efficient and sustainable use of resources, and achieve their goals.
Our portfolio of services includes:
- provision of advisory services by experts,
- financial contributions,
- capacity development and support for project executing agencies,
- provision of equipment and materials for beneficiary organisations,
- analyses and reports.
The inputs provided by Germany are a contribution to projects and programmes which are planned or are already being implemented by the partners. This means that the partners also contribute to the measures – by covering operating costs or salaries, for example. When working on behalf of BMZ, we also attach priority to ensuring that our local partner organisations can continue to run the projects after funding from the German Government has ceased.
