New member of the GIZ Management Board

On 1 October, Thorsten Schäfer-Gümbel commenced his role as the third member of the GIZ Management Board. ‘We warmly welcome Mr Schäfer-Gümbel to GIZ and we look forward to working together,’ said Managing Directors Tanja Gönner and Christoph Beier.

For Thorsten Schäfer-Gümbel, who will be taking over as Labour Relations Director on the Management Board, this marks a new chapter in his career. ‘I am really looking forward to my new role,’ he said. Thorsten Schäfer-Gümbel was born in Oberstdorf, Germany, on 1 October 1969 and grew up in Gießen, Hesse. After studying political science, he became a member of the state parliament of Hesse in 2003 and served in various offices, including as regional chair of the SPD in Hesse and as a member of the national board of the SPD. He will be resigning from his political offices to focus on his new role at GIZ.
