Good health made simple: all vaccinations at a glance
GIZ is supporting Tunisia in extending its digital COVID-19 vaccination platform to include all the common vaccinations.
Tunisia used a digital vaccination platform to coordinate millions of COVID-19 vaccinations. A total of 13 million vaccines were distributed and administered to serve the country’s population of around twelve million people. The platform is now being extended to include all the common vaccinations, for example flu and travel vaccinations. To great effect: two thirds of the population have already registered.
Fast response, well implemented
It is less than two years since the coronavirus pandemic held the world hostage. Countries were faced with the challenge of distributing the vaccines to as many areas as possible. Tunisia’s Ministry of Public Health teamed up with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH to find a solution that enabled it to reach more people. On behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), GIZ cooperated with local partners to implement the commission, resulting in the digital vaccination platform Evax.
Evax is a digital tool that enables all of the country’s citizens to make appointments to see a doctor and to have a vaccination. Anyone interested simply has to register using their identity card, after which they can make appointments, receive reminders and then obtain a digital vaccination record.
Users’ data is stored securely on local servers and is anonymised and encrypted before being shared with the Ministry of Public Health. That helps the ministry to keep a real-time overview of the distribution of medical products across the country, because the live data shows where which product is needed and helps the administration recognise rising outbreaks of illnesses, for example if higher demand is seen. This means that vaccines and medications are more readily available as a result of smart logistics.
